Is losing weight a feasible goal to be expected from martial arts training

Considering you have to have will power to lose weight and will power takes discipline and martial arts teaches students discipline through martial arts training than it would be safe to say that martial arts is a fabulous exercise activity to lose weight!

Martial arts has a combination of components including physical, mental, spiritual and social and although some martial arts have more emphasis on physical activity than others, for example: Karate, Judo, Tai Kwon Do etc....others have more emphasis on the spiritual, for example: Tai Chi, Chi Gong, Shiatsu etc…. and still others have a combination ie: Aikido

One of the most common reasons why people are not successful with diet and exercise in an effort to lose weight is because there is a huge lack of self-worth and belief that they can do it.

Martial arts includes in it's regimen things that otherwise would have to be incorporated into your fitness routine manually. For example: aerobics, strength and endurance training, coordination, stretching, and meditation.

Obesity and being over weight can lead to disease whether its diabetes, heart disease or arthritis. The United States has the highest rate of obesity in the world and there are many reasons why people are overweight. Lack of activity, increased food consumption and stress.

Doctors say excess body weight affects 2 out of every 3 people in the US. Exercising for about 20 minutes a day helps burn the excess fat in the body. This can involve jogging, running or aerobics. The fat is utilized to produce energy. Food intake must also be monitored and junk food and carbonated sugar drinks must be cut out completely. Essentially changing your entire lifestyle will be necessary!

The added benefits of martial arts training is the family feel that a martial arts school offers and the discipline required to train effectively. This offers a structure that is both comforting and hard work. You know the old saying…."no pain, no gain" (figure of speech)!
